Singapore Math, or “Maths” as it is known locally, has become a popular curriculum thanks to Singapore’s consistent top ranking in an international achievement study known as TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) over the last 2 decades. Jeff Bezos uses it to teach his kids. Advocates of this curriculum tell us that it instills “math sense” in children through its focus on the mastery of a few concepts at a deeper level, then building on these concepts from academic year to year. Children apparently emerge with stronger conceptual understanding and better problem solving skills. Read more about it here and here.
If you are looking for additional enrichment and practice from “the source”, check out local worksheets compiled into what is known as “assessment books”. They are readily found at local bookstores such as Popular. Best-selling assessment books include onSponge, Andrew Er’s, Fan-Math, and Conquer.Price: n/a
